Plant Journeyman Electrician


Job Description:

Growing manufacturing company/machine shop has an immediate position for a licensed plant journeyman (PJ) electrician. This position is primarily responsible for repairs, modifications and additions to the equipment and electrical infrastructure supporting manufacturing operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support installation of new equipment and support infrastructure. Install new circuits in compliance with current NFPA70/NEC.
  • Preventative maintenance of existing low-voltage (<600V systems) power distribution infrastructure, including panels, circuit breakers and fused disconnects.
  • Troubleshooting and repairs of equipment such as PLCs, VFDs, CNC equipment electrical systems, and motors.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in a safe condition to operate. Verify that all equipment that is down for repair or in an unsafe condition is locked-out and tagged-out.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and deploy data-com infrastructure such as Wi-Fi access points, IP cameras, and low-voltage wiring in support of the information technology team (IT) as needed.
  • Maintain an active panel schedule and circuit diagram for the facility.
  • Support ongoing continual improvement activities in the facility such as lighting upgrades, demolition of depreciated wiring, and addition of labeling, signage and documentation.
  • Perform day-to-day preventative maintenance activities on a wide variety of equipment ranging from HVAC units to complex standalone machinery.
  • Track, perform, document and complete maintenance tickets within an ISO 9001 compliant database system.



  • Current/ valid Plant Journeyman (PJ) electrical license.
  • Self-starter/ capable of operating efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Positive and dependable.
  • Capable of bending/ forming EMT conduit up to 1” dia. along complex paths using common offsets, saddles, kicks, ect. in conformance with applicable workmanship requirements.
  • Ability to work at heights of up to 35’. Capable of using ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, ect. in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, circuit breakers, VFDs, PLCs, relays, and other common industrial electrical components.
  • Experience with typical automation sensors such as proximity switches, photo-eyes, pressure transducers, flow meters, ect.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics of multiple standards including NEMA, IEC, IEEE and JIS.
  • Knowledge of proper installation methods/ requirements for high-speed datacom wiring such as CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, single and multimode fiber. Can use tools such as 8P8C crimpers, 110 style punch down tools, network toners and qualification testers.
  • Experience with PLC diagnostics and programming in Ladder Logic (LAD), Function Block (FB) and Structured Text (ST) programming languages a plus.
  • Allen Bradley Logix 500/ Studio5000/ CCW, Siemens Step7/TIA, Omron CX-One and Sysmac studio, Productivity Suite, and other PLC programming software a plus.
  • Experience with deploying and troubleshooting industrial fieldbus systems and networks such as Modbus/ Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet, and IO-Link a plus.
  • Familiarity with NEFP 79 and UL508 standards a plus.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001. Capable of utilizing, improving, and developing maintenance and process documentation.
  • Familiar with common shop hand tools, measurement tools (dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, etc.) and power tools. Can use tools safely and effectively.
  • Welding/ fabrication experience (MIG/ TIG) is a plus, but not required.


Working Conditions:

  • Day shift Monday through Friday. Some overtime/ weekends may be required.
  • Capable of working in tight or confined workspaces.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at elevated heights (24’ max) as required.
